Singapore attractions – Giant Whirlpool outside Marina Bay Sands Hotel – Rain Oculus, by Ned Khan


We are at one of the must see Singapore Attractions, “The Rain Oculus”, located inside and outside the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore. This attraction created by Ned Khan depicts a giant whirlpool where water rotates around a giant bowl before it is sucked down a hole (oculus) falling two stories into the Marina Bay Sands Complex where it feeds a long water canal that runs through the shopping mall.

Wiki writes about Ned Khan, the creator of this Giant Singapore Whirlpool (Rain Oculus) at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel… “Ned Kahn is an environmental artist and sculptor, famous in particular for museum exhibits he has built for the Exploratorium in San Francisco. His works usually involves capturing an invisible aspect of nature and making it visible; examples include building facades that move in waves in response to wind; indoor tornadoes and vortices made of fog, steam, or fire; a transparent sphere containing water and sand which, when spun, erodes a beach-like ripple pattern into the sand surface…”

The Marina Bay Sands Whirlpool (Rain Oculus) is free to view and the water show, that releases more than 22,000 liters of water per minute, through the Oculus, can be viewed once an hour.
